Consultation & Booking
Do I need a GP referral to see Mr Naparus?
No — self-referral is welcome for most cosmetic and reconstructive consultations. A GP referral letter is helpful where there is a relevant medical history, and is required by most health insurers, but it is not essential to book an appointment.
How do I book a consultation?
Use the online booking form, call 020 3432 3411, or email appointments@naparus.com. Your enquiry is reviewed within one working day and you will be contacted to arrange a suitable time.
What happens at the first consultation?
An unhurried, one-to-one discussion covering your concerns and goals, a relevant medical history, and a physical examination where applicable. Mr Naparus will explain whether surgery is appropriate, what it can and cannot achieve, the alternatives, and the risks — you will leave with a clear understanding, not a sales pitch.
Can I bring someone with me to my consultation?
Yes, you are welcome to bring a partner, relative or friend to your consultation.
Where does Mr Naparus see patients?
Consultations and most procedures take place at 84 Harley Street and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital Private Care. Paediatric cases are also seen at The Portland Hospital.
Will I get a second opinion if I'm unsure about surgery?
Yes. Mr Naparus is happy to provide an honest opinion, including advising against surgery where it is not the right option, or where a non-surgical approach would serve you better.
Fees & Insurance
What does Mr Naparus's quote include?
Your written quote from Mr Naparus covers the consultation, the surgeon's fee for the procedure itself, and your follow-up appointments with Mr Naparus. It does not include hospital or facility fees, nursing fees, the anaesthetist's fee, histology, or any investigations — these are billed separately. See Fees & Pricing for a full explanation.
Why isn't the hospital fee included in the surgeon's quote?
Hospital facility fees, nursing care and the anaesthetist are provided by, and billed by, the hospital and the anaesthetist directly rather than by Mr Naparus. This is standard practice in UK private healthcare — your hospital will provide a separate quote for these costs alongside Mr Naparus's quote for his own fee.
Which health insurers does Mr Naparus recognise?
Mr Naparus is recognised by Bupa, Bupa Fee Assured, AXA Health, Aviva Health, Vitality and WPA. If you are using insurance, you must obtain pre-authorisation from your insurer before your consultation — this is a requirement of all insurers and cannot be arranged on your behalf.
Can costs be given over the phone before a consultation?
An accurate quote cannot be given until you have been assessed by Mr Naparus in clinic, after a face-to-face consultation and examination.
Anaesthesia & Your Procedure
Will my procedure be under local or general anaesthetic?
This depends on the specific procedure and your preference. Many smaller procedures — including mole and cyst removal, earlobe repair, and some scar revisions — are performed under local anaesthetic. Larger procedures such as facelift typically use general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with sedation. This is discussed and agreed at consultation. See Surgery Under Local Anaesthetic.
Will I need to stay in hospital overnight?
Many procedures are day-case, meaning you go home the same day. Larger procedures may involve a single overnight stay for observation. You will be told which applies to your procedure in advance.
Who administers my anaesthetic?
General anaesthesia and sedation are administered by a consultant anaesthetist as part of the hospital theatre team — their fee is billed separately from Mr Naparus's surgical fee.
Recovery & Aftercare
How long will I need off work?
This varies significantly by procedure, from a few days for minor local anaesthetic procedures to two to four weeks for facelift or abdominoplasty. A specific estimate is given for your procedure at consultation.
When can I exercise again after surgery?
Light walking is usually encouraged early in recovery to reduce DVT risk. Return to strenuous exercise and heavy lifting is typically restricted for four to six weeks, and confirmed individually at your follow-up appointments. See DVT & PE Prevention.
Who do I contact if I have a concern after surgery?
You will be given direct contact details for the clinical team at discharge, along with clear guidance on what would warrant urgent contact versus routine follow-up. See Arranging Your Aftercare.
How many follow-up appointments will I have with Mr Naparus?
Follow-up appointments with Mr Naparus are included in your quote and scheduled at intervals appropriate to your procedure — commonly at one to two weeks, six weeks, and a longer-term review to assess final results.
When will I see the final result?
Swelling and scar maturation mean the final result of most procedures is not fully apparent for three to twelve months, depending on the procedure. Early results can look different from the eventual outcome — this is normal and discussed in advance.
Safety, Risks & Suitability
Does Mr Naparus screen for body dysmorphic disorder before cosmetic surgery?
Yes. Psychological screening for body dysmorphic disorder is a routine part of every cosmetic consultation, in line with GMC and Royal College of Surgeons guidance. Where BDD is suspected, surgery is paused and appropriate support is discussed. See Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
What are the general risks of surgery?
All surgery carries risks including bleeding, infection, scarring, and risks specific to anaesthesia. Risks specific to your procedure are explained individually at consultation, alongside how they are minimised and managed.
What if I need revision surgery?
Occasionally a further, smaller procedure is needed to refine a result. This is discussed openly and individually — if you have any concern about your result, your first step is always to contact the clinic to arrange a review.
Can I cancel or postpone my procedure?
Yes — contact the clinic as early as possible if you need to postpone or cancel. Hospital cancellation policies may apply closer to the date; you will be advised of these when your procedure is booked.
