Getting Home
You cannot drive yourself home after sedation or general anaesthesia, and it is not advisable after most local anaesthetic procedures involving the face or hands either. Arrange for a responsible adult to collect you and stay with you, or a taxi/car service if a companion collecting you is not possible — this is confirmed before your admission.
The First 24–48 Hours
- Have a responsible adult with you overnight following sedation, general anaesthesia, or any procedure with a same-day discharge
- Prepare food in advance, or arrange for someone to help, as you may feel groggy or have limited mobility
- Set up a comfortable recovery space in advance — cushions for elevation, easy access to a bathroom, phone and chargers within reach
- Keep your discharge instructions and emergency contact number somewhere easy to find
Practical Planning Before Surgery
- Arrange childcare or pet care for the period your mobility will be reduced
- Take the recommended time off work — specific guidance is given for your procedure
- Avoid scheduling major commitments or travel too soon after surgery — see Travel After Surgery
- Have your pain relief and any prescribed medication ready at home before surgery, not to be bought afterwards
Your Follow-Up Schedule
Post-operative follow-up appointments with Mr Naparus are arranged as clinically indicated for your procedure, typically including an early wound check, a later appointment once healing is established, and further review if needed as your scar matures. Between Appointments
You are not on your own between scheduled visits. Contact details for the team are provided at discharge, with a clear route for both routine questions and anything urgent.
